Philanthropists keep on giving

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (PNAN) – Going on view on Saturday, February 18, 2023, “The New York Vanguard” is an exhibition that will celebrate the major group of mid-20th century paintings and works on paper.

All ten of the artists in the Vanguard worked in New York just as the center of the art world shifted from Paris to that city following World War II, and all wrestled with the question of how to make art in a culture that had witnessed the war’s unprecedented destruction.

Generously given to the Norton Museum of Art by Stephen and Madeline Anbinder, in 2018, the Anbinders gifted their first work Norton by Ad Reinhardt and since have promised an additional paintings, including works by the leading Abstract Expressionists Helen Frankenthaler, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, and Robert Motherwell, as well as other first works by Giorgio Cavallon, Elaine de Kooning, Vivian Springford, and Esteban Vicente.

The exhibit runs through June 11, 2023. Editor’s Note: Upcoming exhibitions, “At the Dawn of a New Age: Early Twentieth-Century American Moderism” and “From Man Ray to O’Keefee: American Modernism at the North” will open on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
