(AAPNW-IL) – Chicago’s first charter high school, Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy, which is dedicated to preparing students for health science careers, got Governor Pat Quinn’s ‘foot of approval’ as ground was broken. Aside from the educational benefits, the project will create 160 jobs and is supported by the Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program.
“By helping to build the Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy, our state is creating jobs and improving health care while expanding career opportunities for the thousands of students it will serve.” Governor Quinn said. “This project is an investment in education, in our communities and in Illinois’ future.”
To be located the Pilsen neighborhood, the 100,0o00 square foot facility will redevelop an existing warehouse into a state-of-the-art education facility that will also be used to provide healthcare services to 12,000 people served by the Instituto del Progreso Latino. In addition, the renovation and expansion project expects to receive Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED) Silver Certification.

More than 43,000 families have utilized its programs to learn English, earn GEDs or high school diplomas, increase job skills and find employment.
