Giant pussycat greets visitors

(PNAN-MT) –  Fernando Botero’s “Monumental Cat with Whiskers” is on display through the fall at the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings. The two-ton bronze sculpture was installed into the front planter box of the museum.

Born in 1932 in Medellín, Antioquia, in the mountains of Colombia, Botero is a painter and sculptor artist who gained fame for his distinctive, generously proportioned figures of people and animals. His inflated-looking figures are influenced by both South American and European artistic traditions, and often allude to family and spirituality. His art is collected by major museums, corporations and private collectors.
