Clay show links cities

“Deer with Alphabet Blanket”, porcelain paper clay, by Susan O’Byrne.

Showing in the Inez Greenberg Gallery at the Bloomington, Minnesota Center for the Arts, presented by Artistry, “Urban Parallel: A Celebration of the History and Legacy of Ceramics in Glasgow, Scotland” is an art exhibition featuring the work of  Scottish artists Susan O’Byrne, Livia Marin, Jonathan Wade, Dawn Youll, James Rigler and Andrea Walsh. Remaining on view through March 30, the show runs concurrent with the National Council on Education for Ceramic Artists conference.

The exhibition hopes to recognize a shared industrial history and ceramic legacy between Minneapolis and Glasgow, Scotland. Each artist included in this exhibition has relocated their practice to or is associated with Glasgow.

Acknowledging either the city’s past and its era of Victorian pottery production and its modern vibrant urbanism, the exhibit references the cultural rebirth of a post-industrial Glasgow while highlighting this city’s relevance as a creatively innovative ambitious hub whose industrial heritage has in part fostered a contemporary ceramic sector.
