Women artists to take center stage

TRAVERSE CITY, MI (AAPNW) – Rooted in contemporary and historical artworks, “Vitality and Continuity: Art in the Experiences of Anishinaabe, Inuit and Pueblo Women” is a traveling exhibition that explores themes such as, mothering, making, art world success, spirituality, and continuity in visual culture across generations, including it celebrates some of the critical roles these women fulfill in their families, their communities, the art world and beyond.

Going on view Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Dennos Museum Center, the spotlight will be on women artists, Kenojuak Ashevak (Inuit), Kelly Church (Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi/Grand Traverse Ottawa/Chippewa descent), Maria Martinez (San Ildefonso), as well as many more.

The exhibit is one in a series of American art exhibitions and will travel next to the Bonifas Art Center on May 28 and the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum on September 22, 2023.
