Ohio has announced the launch of “Murals Across Ohio,” a statewide initiative highlighting the vibrant public art found throughout the state, especially along and around the NorthWest Passage Record coverage area. This project, developed in partnership with the Ohio Arts Council, features existing murals that tell stories of local history, culture, and community pride.
Several murals already grace the region, including:
“Harvest Jubilee” in Fort Recovery: A mural by Dan Keyes depicting the historic harvest festival since 1905.
“The Endless Pint” in Versailles: Celebrating French heritage with a mural inspired by the Bicentennial Flag, featuring symbols like chickens and fleur-de-lis.
“Downtown Edgerton and Hicksville”: Welcoming murals by Amy Buchs showcasing local pride and community spirit.
“Greenville’s 1952 Postcard”: A nostalgic recreation of a historic postcard by Curt Teich and Company.
Union City’s “John William Lambert”: Honoring Ohio’s automotive pioneer with a mural by Pamela Bliss depicting the first gasoline-powered engine in America.
“Oxford’s Changemakers”: Celebrating civil rights activists James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman, with a tribute by Ella Cope.
Wapakoneta’s “Moon Landing”: A mural honoring Neil Armstrong’s hometown, created by John Cerny.
Bowling Green’s “Great Black Swamp”: An artistic depiction of Ohio’s historic landscape, created through community collaboration.
Toledo’s “Glass City River Wall”: An expansive mural on silos along the Maumee River by Gabe Gault featuring native imagery and local history.
Piqua’s “The Mills Brothers”: Celebrating the legendary vocal quartet with a mural capturing their musical legacy.
Troy’s “Sunrise, Sunset”: A mural by Aka Pereyma symbolizing community life and artistic heritage.
