(NWPR-OH) – Everyone remembers their dream of waking up on Christmas morning, finding a shiny red bicycle, complete with a huge velvet bow, leaning against the ornament filled, brightly lit evergreen. Although that dream usually fizzled down to inheriting someone else’s second hand bike, the freedom and excitement of your very first bike was still there.
Memories come alive at the Bicycle Museum of America located in New Bremen, Ohio, where the history of the bicycle begins in the 1870s and progresses to the mountain bikes of today.
Just as many people proudly embrace the history of Neil Armstrong and his historical ‘first walk on the moon’, Ohio is also honored with the Huffy bicycle manufacturer, one of the largest in the world. The Dayton Bicycle was first manufactured in Dayton, beginning in 1892 by the Davis Sewing Machine Company. The company, originally started in New York, later purchased by the Huffman family, began manufacturing the well-known Huffy bicycles in the 1930s.
The astonishing collection of bicycles and memorabilia was previously located at the Navy Pier in Chicago and has already attracted bicycle enthusiasts from around the world to New Bremen.
