Bill to toss first ‘ball’ in Mather Lecture Series

(NWPR) On Sunday, September 19 at 2:00 pm, former coach and athletic director at area Fort Wayne, Indiana schools, Bill Derbyshire will open the George R. Mather Lecture Series at the History Center  with “50 Years of the Wildcat Baseball League”. Derbyshire spent 36 years with the Wildcat Baseball Team in Fort Wayne, which celebrates its 50th year with ‘Coach Wildcat Bill’ talking about the past, present and future of this Fort Wayne institution.

The next featured speaker is local historian and genealogist, John Beatty. His presentation, “Stephen Douglas and the Presidential Campaign of 1860” is on October 3.

On November 7, a lecture, “Between Two Cultures: The Home of William Wells and Sweet Breeze at Fort Wayne” with a book signing with Joe Krom , author of  “Heart of a Warrior”, his latest book that is about William Wells and his Miami Indian wife, Sweet Breeze.
