(NWPR-IN) – More than 68 artists have submitted works for the “Toys & Book Illustrations” show that opens on Friday, October 29 at the Artlink Contemporary Art Gallery in Fort Wayne. The public viewing begins at 6:00 pm with a Gallery Walk-through, followed by a reception until 9:00 pm. The exhibition is comprised of the artist’s handmade toys, depictions of toys in any medium, as well as original book illustrations.
Artists like Alison Adams of New Haven built “Esmeralda,” a wooden sheep covered with real sheep hide. The piece can be used as a toy box or a child may sit on it as a stool. Joe Driver of Fremont is exhibiting a wooden “Child’s Briefcase” which doesn’t open but holds two wooden cars in its body which can be released by pulling a dowel at the top of the case. There are watercolor illustrations from Fort Wayne artists Diana Fair and Nancy Longmate. Fair presents “Hop, Hop, Sploosh!” from a book entitled, “The Little Green Frog.” And Longmate gives her impression of “Where the Wild Things Are” in her watercolor collage called, “In Your Dreams.” Apple-head and cloth and corduroy dolls are on display, as well as many drawings and photographs of toys from top area artists. The show remains on view through December 1.
Also in the Push Pin Gallery, artwork by the Student Art League from the University of Saint Francis will be on display.
