An annual heart-warming tradition

OWENSBORO, KY (AAPNW) – One of this city’s oldest holiday traditions, the 46th annual Holiday Forest Festival of Trees is on view at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art throughout the museum’s three wings.

The Holiday Forest features 18 monumental Christmas trees and special decorations designed and created by local artists, florists, schools and organizations. These trees interpret the exhibition, Celebrate Kentucky, selected from the museum’s collection of more than 1,000 objects of works by artists with connections to the Commonwealth by birth, residence or education.

Special trees created for the festival include “Back Home in Kentucky” by Owensboro Herb Society; “Woven Together Tree” by Western Kentucky Basket Guild; “A Stained Glass Tree” from glassmaker Linda’s House; and the “Chrismon Tree” from St. Stephen Cathedral. In addition, a collection of four trees were designed especially for the John Hampden Smith Decorative Arts Wing by Gary Tunget.

Other activities by regional schools are scheduled through December to include participatory projects in the Michael E. Horn Family Foundation’s Artland, an interactive studio for children, where ornaments for the Artland Tree are made and ornaments also made to take home.
