(NWPR) – Recorded live during their 2008-09 season, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra has released a new compact disc recording of two 20th century works: William Grant Still’s Symphony No. 1 (“Afro-American”) and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6.
The performance of William Grant Still’s Symphony No. 1 includes the recitation of poems by Paul Laurence Dunbar and Dr. Herbert Woodward Martin of the University of Dayton. Each of the Symphony’s four movements is prefaced by a Dunbar poem.
