(NWPR) – “A sister can be seen as someone who is both ourselves and very much not ourselves; a special kind of double,” said Toni Morrison (1931-) an Ohio-born writer, teacher, editor, and Pulitzer and Nobel Prize Literature honoree. In keeping with what unites not only people, but also places in a bond of sisterhood, the Fort Wayne Sister Cities International and the Fort Wayne Cinema Center will bring to the screen the films featuring from each of the countries where Fort Wayne, Indiana has a sister city.
On Tuesday, October 5, the Japanese film that won a Best Actor Award at Cannes, “Nobody Knows” is about a single mother who abandons her four children and the eldest son must struggle to keep his family together.
On Tuesday, October 12, the Gera, German, Committee will show “Wings of Desire”, a film classic by Wim Wenders that is a fantasy about an angel who falls in love with a beautiful circus performer and decides to become human.
On Tuesday, October 19, the Plock, Polish Committee presents “Ashes and Diamonds”, a film about two men are ordered to murder a leading communist on the last day of WWII. They botch the attempt, and as they wait to try again, one of them falls in love.
As an added highlight and included in each “Sister City Film Festival”, at 6:00 pm there will be a food-tasting from each featured country. Tickets for both the film and food tasting are $20 and are available at Cinema Center and Artlink.
